International news:

  • European Championship J/80 [Saint Cast - Le Guildo - FR] (2-9/7/2022)

A total fleet of 54 boats participated of which 5 Belgian boats (4 Dutch, 4 Spanish, 1 Irish and 1 German boat). What a nice Belgian delegation! 🥳
During this 5 days lasting championship, the best J/80 teams raced in a great environment three up-downwind races/day.

It was clear from the beginning that the level was very high and that every small mistake would cost a lot of places. The stakes were high and thus resulting in nervosity at the starting line (BFD’s...), some contact sports as there were some penetrations and a lot of yelling and jury whistling around the marks.

The championship was dominated by Ecole Navale (FR), Armen Habitat (FR) and the Spanish boats, but in the end Ecole Navale (Team Custo Pol) - Pierre Laouenan was the clear winner!
The Belgian delegation can be also be very proud to take home the 8th place thanks to the top performance of Sea Jou 2 (Capitale 1 Reg BXL) -Jacques Lemaire👏 💪
Other Belgian boats also played very well:

      • 25th place Ninja (KYCN Racing Team) Jeremy Florizoone

      • 29th place Jackpot (Capitale 2 Reg BXL) Jean Marc Fobert

      • 46th place FDS Lord Jim Eric Van Audenrode

      • 47th place Hot J (KYCN Racing Team) Delegrange Guenrikh

also the Belgium based French team EOS - Jacques Hubert obtained a nice 26th place!

It’s clear that a lot of European top sailing crews want to compete on J/80. The Class is growing in size and professionalism and Ecole Navale will even buy 10 more J/80's, so if you know people who want a new boat, it might be the right time to join them in buying?
